This look is broken down into two parts: the front and the back. The front is a pompadour and the back could be either loose curls secured in a fine hair net or else done up in a roll. For this look, I am going to recreate my interpretation of it by doing loose curls at the back secured in a fine hair net. To recreate this look, you will need the following supplies:
- bobby pins
- hair brush
- hair filler (or commonly called a rat in a long shape)
- fine hair net
- pomade
- hair spray
To get started, I pin curled my hair to give my hair enough volume and to get the curled hair I needed to complete the back of this look. You can do this with any method of hair curling you want, pin curls are just my own personal preference. Below, I have just pulled the pin out of my hair and am breaking up the curls to brush them out.
Once the hair is brushed out, section out a front section. This will form the front of the hair do - the pompadour. How much hair? That depends on you.
Once you have a hair section, take a hair filler that is long enough to go over the head and ear to ear or just short of ear to ear. Take the ends of the hair at the front section and wrap them around the center of the hair filler. Roll upwards and towards the head. Spread out the hair as you go to cover the hair filler.
For the hair at the back of the head, take a fine hair net and place the hair into the net to keep the curls in place. Secure the ends of the net with bobby pins into the ends of the hair roll. To tame any fly aways, I used the rose pomade from Little Bits Cosmetics Company. Finish off with hair spray if desired.
Now that the hair do is out of the way, lets talk makeup. No makeup is the ideal but if you must then this is what I would recommend. I used the crimson cream rouge by Besame and the translucent powder named "Peggy" by Besame as well. The goal is to keep the makeup as light and as natural as possible. I applied the rough with my fingertips to my cheeks and lips and blended, blended, blended. Then I set the look with a thin coat of powder.
The final makeup look. It's not much but its light and as natural as I could get it. The ideal German woman did not wear cosmetics but there is enough evidence out there to suggest otherwise. I say if you choose to wear cosmetics, keep it light and keep your impression in mind.
This is the final look all wrapped up. For hair styles like this, a tilt hat that points towards to the front of the head will not do. Instead, look for a hat that goes on the back of the head to showcase the hair do. The dress is one that I made myself. I could have recreated the outfit in the photo but did not feel like it today.
