German Fashion in Photos from the Collection of Randy Mckeithan

From the extensive collection of Randy Mckeithan, another stunning photo of a lovely woman and a German soldier. Since this blog is all about the ladies, I will not be going into the uniform, there are plenty of other resources dedicated to militaria. When it comes to German wartime fashion, it can be so complex because some women wore clothes very on trend for the 1940s while some did not. Here is a great example of a woman wearing clothes very typical of the early 1940s.

Her hat is a great, actually a spectacular, example of the headwear some women wore in the 40s. This is a great and very dramatic hat with sweeping brim that dips in front of the face and has a tall and dramatic crown. Some hats in the 1940s were really conservative and some were very dramatic. Here is a great example of a German woman wearing a dramatic hat.

Her dress is just as stunning too. It is a design that has rather soft shoulders, so it is more in line with the styles of the early 40s. when I zoomed in for a closer look, her neckline is actually incredibly unique, it forms two points that cover the neckline. Very unique!! I love the delicate gathers at the shoulder too, a great dress maker detail. The sleeves are a short slightly puffed sleeve. The skirt is fitted at the hip and end below the knee. Her legs are covered in an opaque stocking in either cotton or wool and her shoes are very plain.

At the front of her dress appears to be something as well. I am thinking it might be a corsage. It is too large for a pin and has texture to it.  Her face is free of makeup from what I can tell. Her lips are plain so no lipstick. When I zoomed in on the image, she is wearing a small wristwatch. If you are thinking of adding jewelry to your impression, a wristwatch is a great option, it is both fashionable and practical.
