How To Tie a 1940s Turban

Following along with my most recent post about turbans and headscarves in wartime German fashion, I have a tutorial for you on how to tie a scarf into a stylish and practical turban as a head covering. to start, you want a headscarf. . .duh. but what kind? I like to find scarfs that are not slippery or too smooth. If they are super slippery like most polyester ones are then they will not work as well. You want something with a little "grip" if that makes sense. Next, what size? Now I know this is not too scientific, but I like a head scarf that when folded in half diagonally can stretch from wrist to wrist when stretched out. So, fairly good size if not larger. You want something that you can actually tie and wrap around your head and hair. As a note, the larger the scarf, the larger your turban will be. 1940s German Hair Tutorial and How to Style Hats With It

Welcome back to more hair raising adventures and today I am showing you how to do another period appropriate hair style based off an original photograph. For this hair style, the hair is curled and then secured to the sides of the head with hair combs. A nice thing about this hair style is that it can be styled for both day and evening and can be styled with a multitude of different hats - I will be showing you three hats and also a hair flower for more dressy occasions. If you are in need for a hair style that is not too terribly fussy and need one that can work for a whole day (and maybe a whole weekend with enough hair spray) then this look would work really well for you. A Hair Style Tutorial with a Snood

Although snoods were not that common for German fashion, they are a great tool to hide modern hair when other solutions will not work. And although they were not common, I was able to source two period images of their use in my collection of magazines. Using the illustrations as my inspiration, I have a quick tutorial for you with step by step instructions. To start, you will need: A snood (duh) A fine hair net bobby pins Brush or comb Hair filler To achieve this look, I already brushed out my pin curl set and separated my hair into the front section and the back. The front section is smaller and goes from ear to ear. Next, I took some hair filler and wrapped the front section of hair around the hair filler and pinned it in place. I have fine and thin hair so I need hair filler pieces to make up for the lack of volume. Next, I took my extra fine hair net and coaxed the back of my hair into the net.
