A Hair Style Tutorial with a Snood

Although snoods were not that common for German fashion, they are a great tool to hide modern hair when other solutions will not work. And although they were not common, I was able to source two period images of their use in my collection of magazines. Using the illustrations as my inspiration, I have a quick tutorial for you with step by step instructions. To start, you will need: A snood (duh) A fine hair net bobby pins Brush or comb Hair filler To achieve this look, I already brushed out my pin curl set and separated my hair into the front section and the back. The front section is smaller and goes from ear to ear. Next, I took some hair filler and wrapped the front section of hair around the hair filler and pinned it in place. I have fine and thin hair so I need hair filler pieces to make up for the lack of volume. Next, I took my extra fine hair net and coaxed the back of my hair into the net. 1940s German Hair Tutorial and How to Style Hats With It

Welcome back to more hair raising adventures and today I am showing you how to do another period appropriate hair style based off an original photograph. For this hair style, the hair is curled and then secured to the sides of the head with hair combs. A nice thing about this hair style is that it can be styled for both day and evening and can be styled with a multitude of different hats - I will be showing you three hats and also a hair flower for more dressy occasions. If you are in need for a hair style that is not too terribly fussy and need one that can work for a whole day (and maybe a whole weekend with enough hair spray) then this look would work really well for you. Hair and Make Up Tutorials for the German WWII Civilian Reenactor

Being a civilian is often the first impression one takes on in reenacting. It is considered to be a cheap impression and a great starter one too. I agree. I think starting off as a civilian is a great idea because if you choose to do a military impression one would have started off as a civilian anyway and being a civilian is something we can all relate to being. However, I believe being a civilian is also one of the hardest impressions to do right. There are so many looks out there and so much research material to sift through that it can be incredibly overwhelming. Want a German impression? Well then things just got harder. . . much harder. . . . because there is not that much out there that is in the public domain. When I began to do research for a large paper to wrap up my college career I would very little out there in German civilian attire so I had to rely on my own private collection of images and two or three scholarly sources.
